Last weekend, Vitoria (Spain) hosted the Medical Innovation Knowledge Sharing (MIKS) International Congress on Biological Therapies, organised by the Arthroscopic Surgery Unit (UCA).
The congress offered a comprehensive update on biological therapies in orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine, exploring their present and future applications, such as pain medicine.
During its three-day duration, key topics on platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and cellular therapies were addressed from a multidisciplinary approach.
The meeting featured leading international experts who shared their knowledge and experiences, enriching the debate and learning of the attendees. Dr. Josep Vergés, President and CEO of OAFI Foundation, gave a presentation entitled ‘Regenerative Therapies and Joint Health: The Patient’s Perspective’, where he explained the different studies carried out by the OAFI Foundation, specifically the results of the studies carried out to analyse the perspective of two key groups: the elderly population and elite athletes, within the framework of the TriAnkle project. During the conference, in addition to presenting the results on their perception of these innovative therapies, the impact of joint diseases and injuries on the quality of life, wellbeing and physical performance of these groups was also discussed.
